IGNOU Late Fee 2026: Re-Registration, Exam Form & Assignment
IGNOU late fee 2026 for re-registration (₹500), exam form (₹1100), and assignment submission. Deadlines, late fee amounts, how to pay, and tips to avoid late fee penalties.
Missing an IGNOU deadline can cost you money, time, and even a semester. IGNOU imposes late fees for re-registration, exam forms, and in some cases assignments submitted after the deadline. This guide covers all IGNOU late fee amounts for 2026, the extended deadlines, how to pay, and — most importantly — how to avoid paying late fees in the first place.
IGNOU Late Fee for Re-Registration 2026
Re-registration is mandatory for continuing students. If you miss the deadline, IGNOU may open an extended window with a late fee:
- Normal deadline: No fee beyond the regular re-registration fee
- Late fee window: ₹200 late fee added to the regular re-registration fee
- Extended late window: ₹500 late fee in some sessions (not always available)
Re-Registration Timeline
| Session | Normal Window | Late Window | Late Fee |
| January 2026 | Oct–Nov 2025 | Dec 2025 (if available) | ₹200–₹500 |
| July 2026 | Apr–May 2026 | June 2026 (if available) | ₹200–₹500 |
Warning: IGNOU does not always open the late re-registration window. If you miss the deadline and no late window is available, you cannot re-register for that session and lose an entire semester.
IGNOU Late Fee for Exam Form 2026
The exam form must be submitted to appear for the Term-End Examination. Late submission incurs progressively higher fees:
- Normal deadline: ₹200 per theory course (standard fee)
- Late fee (first window): ₹500 additional on top of the standard exam fee
- Late fee (second window): ₹1,100 additional on top of the standard exam fee
- After final deadline: No submissions accepted — you cannot appear for the exam
Exam Form Fee Breakdown
| Timing | Theory Course Fee | Late Fee | Total per Theory Course |
| Normal window | ₹200 | ₹0 | ₹200 |
| First late window | ₹200 | ₹500 | ₹700 |
| Second late window | ₹200 | ₹1,100 | ₹1,300 |
For practical courses, the base fee is ₹300 per course. The late fee is per submission, not per course — so ₹500 or ₹1,100 is added once regardless of how many courses you're appearing for.
IGNOU Assignment Submission — Late Fee Rules
Unlike re-registration and exam forms, IGNOU assignment submissions have a hard deadline with no official late fee mechanism:
- June TEE deadline: 31 March 2026
- December TEE deadline: 30 September 2026
If you miss the assignment deadline:
- Some study centres may accept late submissions at their discretion (no official late fee)
- Most study centres will refuse late submissions entirely
- If rejected: You cannot appear for the TEE for that course — you must wait for the next TEE cycle
There is no official late fee for assignments. The consequence of missing the deadline is simply not being allowed to write the exam.
How to Pay IGNOU Late Fee
Late fees are paid online through the same portal as the regular fee:
- For re-registration: Pay through ignou.samarth.edu.in — the late fee is automatically added to your total
- For exam form: Pay through exam.ignou.ac.in — the late fee is calculated based on your submission date
Payment methods include debit card, credit card, net banking, and UPI. Keep the payment receipt for your records.
How to Avoid IGNOU Late Fees
- Set calendar reminders: Mark all IGNOU deadlines at the start of each session — re-registration, exam form, and assignment submission
- Join Telegram groups: Active IGNOU Telegram study groups regularly post deadline reminders
- Follow IGNOU notifications: Check the IGNOU website and your registered email regularly for deadline announcements
- Submit early: Don't wait until the last day — portal crashes are common on deadline day due to heavy traffic
- Use the Samarth portal: Enable notifications on ignou.samarth.edu.in for deadline alerts
